I love me a good schedule.

Well, we are all moved into (mostly moved into) our new house, and we are finally getting back on track. I’ve got lots of tips I want to share! So, to help KEEP me and the monsters on track, I put together a new schedule. We’ve been using it since the start of school, and I have to say it’s been more successful than all my other schedules. The reason? I found something that motivates them . . .  Money!

Happily, they have discovered the allure of money, but still have no clue how much things cost. This allows me to get a lot of return on my investment. If they hit every task on their daily schedule they can earn a whopping 33 cents. For this price I get clean rooms, kids who dress themselves and complaint free piano lessons.

Here’s how to work it:

  1. Make the schedule and assign each task a number of pennies.
  2. Laminate it and each day check off the tasks to calculate what they earn.
  3. Don’t pay them before bed! Payment comes in the morning ONLY if they go to bed with no trouble.
  4. The following morning have them count out the money they’ve earned and now you even got in a quick math lesson!

Here is our schedule:

Check out Harry and Liam on payday!

I’ve really found that this schedule keeps us in line. We don’t always keep things in order, but having a checklist to go through reminds them of the tasks that have to get done each day. The money really does keep them motivated as well. Both have already earned enough for small Lego kits and are thrilled that they have the power to go out and buy something they want.

And even though it’s not on the schedule, don’t forget to reward yourself!

Got a tip for me? Leave it in the comments!
